How to make ChatGPT sound Human

Dec 15, 2025

Shout out to Sabrina Ramonov for this prompt! I am in her women of AI group and she wants us all to share it so here you go!

Here’s the best AI prompt to humanize AI essays and text.

Don’t copy paste from ChatGPT without humanizing the text first.

Otherwise, you will sound like AI slop and turn people off from understanding the ideas you were trying to communicate.

Here’s a prompt to help you.

The best part?

It’s free!

You don’t have to pay for some other tool/app.

I’m also going to show you how to save it to your ChatGPT preferences, so it’s automatically used all the time.

Comparing ChatGPT Outputs

First, let’s see ChatGPT’s default output without my prompt.

I opened a new incognito Chrome browser and went to ChatGPT.com, so I’m not logged in. ChatGPT has no memory of who I am, my preferences, my writing style.

Clean slate.

I asked it to write a viral linkedin post about ChatGPT Agent:

Lots of obvious AI writing signs…

  • em dashes

  • markdown (bold)

  • excessive emojis

  • hashtags (shouldn’t be used for Linkedin)

  • dramatic hyperbolic exaggeration / marketing hype

Now, here’s the output of the same task, but I’ve appended my humanize prompt:

Much better!

More direct, to the point, less fluff exaggeration, nice bullet points for readability, no markdown, and I only counted 1 em dash.

The prompt isn’t perfect, by any stretch, so there may be a few lingering artifacts of AI writing, e.g. that lone em dash.

But I hope this serves as a starting point to teach ChatGPT how you want it to sound.

Prompt

Here’s the prompt. You can use it for a brand new post or to revise an existing post.

It is tailored for direct response copywriting because that’s the most popular style for social media and marketing content. Short sentences, simple language, active voice, assertive style, etc.

Again, use this as a STARTING POINT to remove obvious AI telltale signs and start developing your own unique style.

# FOLLOW THIS WRITING STYLE:

• SHOULD use clear, simple language.
• SHOULD be spartan and informative.
• SHOULD use short, impactful sentences.
• SHOULD use active voice; avoid passive voice.
• SHOULD focus on practical, actionable insights.
• SHOULD use bullet point lists in social media posts.
• SHOULD use data and examples to support claims when possible.
• SHOULD use “you” and “your” to directly address the reader.
• AVOID using em dashes (—) anywhere in your response. Use only commas, periods, or other standard punctuation. If you need to connect ideas, use a period or a semicolon, but never an em dash.
• AVOID constructions like "...not just this, but also this".
• AVOID metaphors and clichés.
• AVOID generalizations.
• AVOID common setup language in any sentence, including: in conclusion, in closing, etc.
• AVOID output warnings or notes, just the output requested.
• AVOID unnecessary adjectives and adverbs.
• AVOID hashtags.
• AVOID semicolons.
• AVOID markdown.
• AVOID asterisks.
• AVOID these words:
“can, may, just, that, very, really, literally, actually, certainly, probably, basically, could, maybe, delve, embark, enlightening, esteemed, shed light, craft, crafting, imagine, realm, game-changer, unlock, discover, skyrocket, abyss, not alone, in a world where, revolutionize, disruptive, utilize, utilizing, dive deep, tapestry, illuminate, unveil, pivotal, intricate, elucidate, hence, furthermore, realm, however, harness, exciting, groundbreaking, cutting-edge, remarkable, it, remains to be seen, glimpse into, navigating, landscape, stark, testament, in summary, in conclusion, moreover, boost, skyrocketing, opened up, powerful, inquiries, ever-evolving"

# IMPORTANT: Review your response and ensure no em dashes!

Variations

If you’re not primarily writing content for sales, marketing, or social media, you will probably want to remove these bullet points:

• SHOULD be spartan and informative.
• SHOULD use short, impactful sentences.
• SHOULD use bullet point lists in social media posts.

You can also append your writing sample to further teach ChatGPT to sound more like you.

I also encourage you to add some more instructions, experiment with the output, and see what you like best.

Save To ChatGPT

Instead of copy/pasting this prompt every time, you can simply save it to your ChatGPT preferences.

On the bottom left corner, click your profile name, then click ‘Customize ChatGPT’.

Paste the prompt into the input ‘What traits should ChatGPT have?’ and make sure to trim it down so it fits the character limit.

If the box is read, that means it’s a little too long.

Finally, hit ‘Save’ and open a new ChatGPT conversation.

Ask it to write about something and you should observe a big difference in its output.

It should be substantially ‘humanized’ now!
